The illegal posting of images/videos of sexual content from private moments on various sites is very common and it is estimated that the incidents are many times more than what the authorities are aware of because, usually due to public shame and the fear of marginalization, the victims do not make a complaint. Many of the victims are in fact minors as it is inevitable in the digital age in which they are growing up, that their sexuality is also expressed through technology.

Revealing private sexual images, or even blackmailing them not to, is a form of abuse that can last forever and cost lives.

98% of the people exposed to the thousands of sites of this type are women, famous or not. We think that women send more nude photos, but the truth is that men send more, but the specific sites do not publish the material concerning men. In addition, when it happens, women, in addition to being victims, are also the ones who face greater social and cultural punishment because the first reaction is to blame themselves.

It is generally accepted and even considered successful for a man to have many sexual encounters, but because for a woman this, even today, is considered degrading, posting these images/videos humiliates and ridicules them, condemning them to a modern day digital stoning.

In our country, these incidents are dealt with on the basis of the law on personal data and also with the defamation provisions of the Criminal Code.

Many European countries and US States, recognizing the seriousness, the possible future development and the necessity of a specific legal framework and penalties in order to combat the phenomenon, have already passed new laws that describe it and treat it as a criminal offense.

In addition, once again let's point out the need for sex education programs in our schools as well as safe surfing on the internet.
