SHE-Society for Help & Emowerment co-signs together with 30 other women's organizations, NGOs and initiatives, within the framework of the "Initiative against Feminicide", a text of support for Gisele Pelicot, the survivor who was drugged by her husband, while inviting unknown men from the Internet to rape her. The text:
France and the whole world these days are living a shocking and unusual trial. Dominique Pelicot, husband of Gisele Pelicot, couple for 50 years, who during 10 years organized the rape of his wife, who was unconscious and drugged by him, is on trial.
In particular, he invited other men over the Internet to rape her, while she was in a state of "corpse" from the chemical treatment, which she was undergoing, without knowing it.
The police discovered the action of the husband, in which almost 100 other men are involved from an incident in a supermarket. There Dominic Pelico was caught photographing women's bottoms and skirts, which caught the attention of the security guard, who alerted the police. The police then investigated and discovered the organized files, in which Dominic Pelicot methodically and meticulously classified each rape photograph separately.
20,000 photos and videos were found, currently 82 people have been identified, while in the trial 52 men involved in the rape of Giselle Peliko, unknown people who were "recruited" by her husband, are acquitted.
In addition to Gisele Pelicot, the defendant drugged and videotaped his daughter naked, as well as his daughters-in-law, the wives of his two sons. According to the testimony of one of the two, he jokingly and seriously asked his underage granddaughters to photograph them naked in exchange for some toys.French feminists and women's rights activists are supporting Giselle and watching this iconic trial, which is addressed to French society and the whole world. Gisele Pelicot herself decided to hold an open house to convey the nightmarish experiences that women go through, while she thanked the solidarity groups for their support. The "Initiative Against Feminicide", which fights for the elimination of violence against women in Greece, welcomes, supports and thanks Giselle Peliko for her decision to hold the trial publicly. And this is because, despite her own martyrdom, she will allow society to realize the extent of the abuse that women experience both in France, but also in Greece and the whole world. Feminists in Greece also know that rapists and abusers are not monsters but everyday people next door, as was seen in the case of the "willing" who responded to Dominic Pelicot's invitation. And in this case, which is based on unshakable evidence (video), attempts are made to turn against the victim or to diminish the importance of what she suffered from her husband and his accomplices. We join our voices with those of French feminists and those in solidarity with Gisele Pélicot, with the voices of the women of the world and we ask the political powers for more than nice words: to ensure conditions of safety for women. Our fight has an international character, because violence against women is a global problem.
