It directly affects our lives as it turns out that what we considered our reserved rights, such as the right to self-determination of our body, do not exist as such but their existence hangs by a thread. They are left to the discretion of some who will never have to have an abortion or have to deal with the complications of an unsafe legally and medically such operation. Some who see our lives and our health as collateral damage in order to re-enforce outdated obscurantist ideas. Because essentially what will be banned is not abortions, they will somehow continue to be done, it is access to safe abortions. And unsafe abortions will particularly burden the lowest and most economically marginalized strata of society, as well as minorities and never the decision makers.Because there will always be politicians willing to sacrifice our lives to promote their own conservative agenda, the unstable position of the State in favor of protecting our basic rights creates insecurity for us. And it makes us wonder if all lives have the same value. Every state will now be able to legislate against access to vital health care but cannot do anything similar against gun ownership when the leading cause of child deaths in the US is shooting. So the State will force you if you are pregnant to give birth to the child, but this child cannot be protected from mass shootings. Those who want/need to terminate an unwanted pregnancy will put their own lives at risk because of the law, at the same time the law protects gun ownership. So the lives of people who need to end an unwanted pregnancy and children going to school have no value but the lives of the unborn do. We thought that humanity has definitively arrived at some issues such as women's right to abortion, the equality of all people regardless of their gender or sexual orientation, the death penalty, etc. but reality denies us every day.
