This gender gap is significant if we consider that jobs in these sectors are characterized as jobs of the future, leading to innovation, social well-being, internal improvement and sustainable development. Similarly, female researchers lead the world in many scientific researches but represent only 33.3% of researchers and their work is rarely recognized as it deserves.

What are the reasons that prevent women/girls from pursuing a career in STEM when we now know that there are no innate cognitive biological differences between men and women in mathematics?

Ingrained prejudices and racial stereotypes prevent girls from a very young age from engaging in these fields. In addition, the lack of female role models of scientists due to the limited presence of female scientists in the media, in books, in popular culture, creates obstacles for them to identify and be inspired.

A result of the small number of women in these studies is the existence of a dominant male culture in the respective fields in the work sector that does not support or make attractive the entry of women. Finally, let's factor in the permanent issue of balancing career and family when there is a lack of support in raising children and in the extra caregiving roles that society typically assigns to women.

It's time to change the narrative! To destroy stereotypes, defy prejudices and defeat the discrimination that keeps women and girls out of STEM. In an increasingly complex world we need all talents and all minds equally, as diversity contributes to creativity, productivity and innovation
